Just In (excuses for not updating a website)
This year has been flying by and I realise that updating the website has been neglected. Apologies if you have checked back to see some new images. I moved house over the Summer and this required a significant amount of my time.
I have been busy taking pictures, with 9 trips to Cornwall so far in 08! Visits to the Dorset Coast have recommenced as the sun is now in the right part of the sky.
There is a big stockpile of exposed film to process. I can accurately predict that there will not be many shots which include evidence of the sun's existence from August...! My processor is now plumbed in and is about to be subjected to an intense period of operation. There are about 100 sheets of film to process....
Keywording and captioning images has also been a victim of restricted time and these need to be done for creating the searchable function of my new website. I don't want to race to get something online and then have to redo a fair amount of the effort.
There are some new pictures to post here, which will happen in the next week or so.
It was good to get a picture commended by the judges in the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. It will appear in the exhibition at London's National Theatre from Mid November to Jan 09 and also in the book.

Since February, I have contributed to two joint exhibitions. In May the Great Atlantic Gallery in Falmouth held a Photo Fest to coincide with the Fal River Festival. Floren Gallery in Parkstone, Poole had a Coast exhibition in August featuring work in differing media. Sales were pleasing at both venues and visitors were very complementary about my photography.
The display in the Mount Haven Hotel in Marazion continues and sales have been good this year. Replenishing stock is always a great excuse to go and stay with them and another visit to West Cornwall!
My pictures are still represented by Britain on View, the photo-library associated with Visit Britain and also with Kos Picture source who specialise in marine images.
LowePro camera bags have chosen to use one of my Beaulieu River images in their advertisements and my review of their wonderful Super-Trekker bag is now being published on several retailers websites.
My Large Format printer has been a revelation, the change in picture size produces a significant increase in impact and reveals the wonderful tonality and detail present through the use of a Large Format camera. Please contact me to enquire about sizes and prices of my pictures and printing services. Although I'm busy, I do have some capacity to print for other photographers/artists and have completed an exciting project for Southampton University.
There are now 13 greetings cards published by Joe Cornish's company Joegraphic. Sunlight in an English Forest has sold very well and now been reprinted more than once. They are available direct from Joegraphic (here, here and here-with the BB suffix) and their stockists, and some branches of John Lewis.
Mike Jay from The Great Atlantic Map Works Gallery agreed to sell some of my photographs. I have long enjoyed my visits to see their shows, the vibrant painting of Maggie Matthews being a favourite of mine. Mike is an accompished photographer who loves the geology of America in particular.
JP Morgan Cazenove bought 4 large pictures for Crystalox, one of their clients and these are now situated in the boardroom and reception areas.
The accountancy firm BDO Stoy Hayward bought 21 prints to decorate their new Ocean Village offices in Southampton.
Castle Cover insurance in Poole have also kindly chosen to use my pictures for their boardroom and office walls.
The Old Lodge Hotel in Alverstoke, Gosport have bought my pictures for a number of shared areas. The Restaurant has excellent cuisine, the atmosphere is great (and smoke free), but beware the bar! In my experiences there, I have always become well and truly 'Lodged!' Visit their website The Old Lodge
My prints are also being used as prizes for the winners of Triathlon and Duathlon events in the New Forest. All competitors receive one of my Joegraphic cards in their 'goody bag' to remind them of the local scenery. Fancy a go? Then ring Richard and Joanne on 01725 514774 or visit Beacon Leisure
Retail Therapy
I dislike the clinical and impersonal nature of having a web shop. A great deal of effort and dare I say love goes into making my images and subsequent prints. Therefore I prefer to either speak on the phone, or via email to prospective purchasers, so that each is happy with their choice of image, size etc. If you are considering buying any of my pictures, for a present , or whatever excuse you can dream up and would like to view real prints rather than virtual web images, contact me or call on 01590 673593 - 0771 457 2943 to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
Light and Land and myself........
Seven years ago I attended a Light and Land workshop run by Joe Cornish which proved pivotal in my photography. Since then, I have attended a number of Light and Land courses/workshops which have yielded images of which I am proud and more importantly I have come away with better appreciation of the landscape and how to commit it successfully to film. I am pleased that Charlie Waite and David have asked me to lead my own courses for the company.
My L&L year now comprises leading two courses; West Cornwall in the spring and to Dorset's wonderful Jurassic Coast- a world heritage site in late November. I am pleased to say that the courses have proved popular and all places are filled quickly.
Click Tuscany, here or below the images in the left margin to see the gallery dedicated to my pictures from there when I assisted David Ward for two visits in May.
The range of photographic tours/courses/workshops they offer is extensive and online. To find out more visit lightandland.co.uk
